Stars Sarah Parish and Roger Lloyd Pack support Bridge School campaign

ACTORS Sarah Parish, known for her role in BBC television drama Mistresses, and Roger Lloyd Pack of Only Fools and Horses, are supporting a campaign to raise £1million to improve a pioneering special school in Islington.

The Bridge School has 150 pupils aged 2-19 with autistic spectrum disorders, severe learning difficulties and profound and multiple learning difficulties.

Ms Parish said: “The work the Bridge School does with disabled children is incredible. I’m proud to be an ambassador for them.”

Ninety-per cent of the school’s budget is spent on staffing as many of the children need constant one-to-one care, and extra funds are needed for better resources for students. Over two years, they hope to raise money for a range of projects including a full-time speech and language therapist, specialist computers and a drama project with the Almeida Theatre. They need at least £1,000 to buy outdoor play equipment.

Roger Lloyd Pack said: “The school does exceptional work to improve the lives of children and young people with learning difficulties and with support it can reach even more people.”

Annette Bonneau, fundraiser at the school, said: “The playground is like a prison. We need sensory devices for children who can’t see and hear.”

On February 25, the school will collect donations at a free classical music concert at Our Lady of Christians Church in Kentish Town.

The school is also looking for volunteers. More details atwww.thebridgelondon.co.uk
